FRIENDS OF SOMERSET ARCHIVES

A Friends group was established on 2 November 2004.  The Friends welcome new members.  To find out more please visit their website at:

www.friendsofsomersetarchives.org.uk

Parish Book The Friends of Somerset Archives aims to:

Increase the public's knowledge of Somerset archives, wherever they might be, and the history of the County of Somerset

Encourage the facilities afforded for the consultation of all types of archives

Support the work of the Somerset Record Office and other archive repositories

Engage in and help co-ordinate voluntary work to improve the availability of records and to assist with the discovery of particular records

Organise visits and develop a programme of meetings with specialist speakers

It would be most helpful to know what you would like from the Friends group, by filling in a questionnaire. Please click on the link to complete the questionnaire.  Showing an interest will not commit you, but will allow us to gauge public opinion about the organisation.

The topics listed on the questionnaire are merely topics taken from other Friends Organisations, and you are welcome to suggest your own. Should you show interest, which you are urged to do, the organisation will be yours and you will have the opportunity of putting forward your own views. You don't even have to be resident in Somerset.  Many who live in other parts of the country or indeed in other countries can offer much to such an organisation.

Any more detailed enquiries should be made to Esther Ormerod or Jane de Gruchy, Somerset Record Office, Obridge Road, Taunton, TA2 7PU. Telephone 01823 278805.
