Location The documents listed in the online catalogue can be seen at one of three places:
The location is stated at the top of the detailed catalogue entry under the heading 'Repository'. All documents listed in the catalogue at Item or Piece level can be consulted. The other levels (eg. Series) are headings to groups of records. If only a Collection level description is present this means that detailed listing still needs to take place. You are welcome to book to look at such material, but it may comprise a large quantity of unsorted papers. Some items are closed to public access due to legal or confidentiality reasons. This is indicated in the Access Status field, and access will not normally be given to records marked as 'Closed'. At the moment it is not possible to view digital images of the documents themselves online (with the exceptions of the postcard and OS map collections held at the Somerset Record Office). However, Somerset Record Office is planning to digitise selected records in the near future, and details of projects to do this will be given on the website once they are underway. Bookings to see documents can be made by phone on (01823) 337600 or by email to archives@somerset.gov.uk Up to four documents may be ordered in advance. Please quote the entire reference of any documents that you wish to see, for example DD\AH/2/3/4, not just 2/3/4.
