LEARNING LINKS

The Victorians

During 2008 Somerset Heritage Service has been working with Wiveliscombe School to create a school-based heritage session to fulfil Key Stage 2 curriculum needs. The session is based on the Victorians and will be made available to schools on an on-going basis from the September term. The session will also be made available in June onsite at the County Museum.

The Senior Archivist for Learning from Somerset Record Office has been working with a teacher from Wiveliscombe School and an education consultant to create a session using resources from across the Heritage Service. This project has been made possible by the Strategic Commissioning Learning Links Programme, funded by the DfES & DCMS, routed via MLA and MLA South West.

The session will provide classes with the opportunity to work with real objects and documents and to dress in period costumes to investigate what life was like for a child in Victorian times, how life differed in town and country, and how localities have changed.

For further information on the session, costs and how to book please see the Heritage Service Schools Summer and Autumn Programmes (sent to schools) or contact Eloise Croucher at Somerset County Museum on 01823 320223.
