We hold records for births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships which have taken place in Somerset since 1837. This page explains how you can get a copy of a marriage certificate.

You can apply for a copy certificate for marriages in Somerset using the button above. You can also apply in writing.

The Standard Certificate Fee is £11 which will be dispatched by 2nd class mail within 15 working days.

The Express Certificate Fee is £35 which will be dispatched by 1st class mail or can be collected within 24 hours if the order is made by 3pm. 

Extra copies of certificates cost £11 each.

When you apply you should provide as much information as possible about the entry you are looking for so that we can identify it correctly.

For a copy marriage certificate, please tell us:

  • Name of first person

  • Name of the second person

  • Date of marriage

  • Place of marriage 

We will search a minimum of two years either side of the date you have given.

Please enclose a cheque or postal order made payable to Somerset County Council with your application.

Your certificate will be posted to the address you give us on your application.

You will not be charged if we cannot find the entry.

The records are stored by the five historical registration districts for Somerset.

Mendip includes Shepton Mallet, Frome and Wells
Sedgemoor includes Bridgwater and Burnham 
South Somerset includes Yeovil, Chard and Wincanton
Taunton includes Taunton and Wellington
West Somerset includes Williton and Minehead.
