If you are between the ages of 16 and 21 and in, or were in, the care of Somerset County Council on or after your 16th birthday, you are entitled to some sort of support, advice or guidance.
You may also be entitled to advice and guidance from us, or from somewhere else, if you were the subject of a Special Guardianship Order and were in the care of a local authority immediately before the order was made, or were fostered or provided with accommodation in other ways.
This support, advice or guidance could last until you are 21, or if you are continuing in, or resuming further or higher education, until you are 25.
The type of support you are entitled to will depend on your personal circumstances. The Leaving Care staff are there to help you get the right sort of help. There are Leaving Care teams based in Taunton, Bridgwater, Yeovil and Shepton Mallet.
There is information about the types of support available in the Information and resources section of this page, including
For young people in our care; ‘A Guide to Leaving Care in Somerset’
For others who may qualify for advice or help; ‘Do you qualify for Leaving Care advice and guidance?’
