All early years business owners and voluntary management committees have responsibility for management, finances and employment of staff in their childcare provision. The experienced Early Years Improvement Team offer support for your early years business and early years committees through meetings with committees, visits to childcare providers, phone and email support.
Areas where they can help include:
- Practical advice on marketing, policies and charging for childcare
- Staffing issues – Mediation of disputes
- Recruitment – Supporting the process
- Sustainability concerns or issues – the earlier these are raised the better!
We also deliver a wide range of workshops to help you with all aspects of your Early Years Business and Committees. The workshops are available throughout the year at venues across the county.

The Early Years Improvement team can provide bespoke professional development workshops for your setting and committee. The bespoke workshop can be delivered at your setting when you have an inset day or on an evening.
£100 for 2 hours
If you are able to provide a suitable venue for the professional development workshops to be delivered the cost will be reduced to £80 for 2 hours.
This price includes tutor and materials including individual learner certificates.
As well as the workshops covered in the brochure we can provide a range of topics which are individual to your setting. Topics that could be covered in bespoke workshops are:

- Tailor-made committee training

Racial Incident Reporting
Any incident at your setting that has a racial element should be reported to the Local Authority using the Racial Incident Recording Sheet which can be found in the Information and resources section. The form can also be obtained from the Pre-School Learning Alliance (PLA) by going to their website www.pre-school.org.uk/somerset and going to the Our Services tab then General Resources.
