Information requests

You have the right to ask us for recorded information on any subject under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR).

If you are unable to find information through our Publication Scheme or our Information responses, you can write to us or fill in our online form to request the information.

We do not hold some categories of information, such as pet licences or Public Health Funerals as we do not deliver these services. For a list of the most frequent requests where information is not held, please see our information responses page.

You must make your request in writing.

Under the EIR you can make your request verbally, or in writing, and it is good practice for us to confirm your request in writing to make sure we have understood it properly.

All requests must contain

  • Your name and address for correspondence;
  • What information is required.

There are guides on making a request on the GOV.UK and Information Commissioner’s Office websites.
