The Performing Arts Library (PAL) is on the second floor of Yeovil Library and offers resources to support music and drama study, recreation and performance.
The library provides a music and drama service which includes loan copies of music scores, sets of performance material, play sets, single copies, and books, as well as an advice and reference service. It also provides access to Sibelius 7 software. The PAL service can be used by anyone who requires single-copy printed music or drama scripts.

Music and drama sets
The Performing Arts Library operates a subscription service for the provision of sets of choral music, orchestral scores and drama play sets. Subscription rates depend on the size of the choir / orchestra / play reading group, and also whether the group is in Somerset.
Request charges apply, with a discount for Somerset groups, keeping charges frozen at the 2014/2015 level. For more information, please see the Terms and Conditions and the Charges sheet.
The standard loan period for music and drama sets is 5 months. Shorter or longer periods can be agreed at the time of requesting, up to a maximum of 9 months.
Charges for overdue items apply.
PAL is an award winning service, and one of the biggest Performing Arts libraries in the region. It has many years’ experience in acquiring and supplying sets of music for the needs of Somerset groups and those in neighbouring counties. It holds considerable stock of its own, including
- 2,198 drama sets
- 40,968 single drama scripts

Additional resources include Sibelius 7, a market-leader for writing, playing, printing and publishing music notation, enabling writers, composers and arrangers at all levels to produce finished pieces of music quickly and easily. A new piece of music can be started from scratch, beginning with selecting the manuscript paper, followed by choosing the instrumental parts, the key, time signatures and tempo markings. Teachers and learners will also find Sibelius an inspiring creative tool. A MIDI keyboard is available for inputting. Sibelius is available for use on a dedicated PC
Users of Sibelius need:
- To be able to read music
- Keyboard/mouse skills
- Windows navigation skills using standard word-processing style tools, for example, menus, drop-down boxes, tick boxes
Sibelius can be pre-booked through a member of the PAL staff and times agreed subject to availability.
