The last adopted structure plan for Somerset was the Somerset and Exmoor National Park Joint Structure Plan Review 1991-2011. Along with the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS), all of its policies except Policy 6 (Bristol/Bath Green Belt) were revoked by the Government on 20th May 2013. This occurred after the Government had considered the outcomes of the environmental assessment of the RSS revocation and revocation orders being approved by Parliament. Local plans prepared by the County Council and Somerset's district and borough councils and neighbourhood plans now form the development plan. Currently, local plans are being prepared in the form of Local Development Frameworks (LDFs).
National policy in the forthcoming National Planning Policy Framework will form an important material consideration.
