Report faulty traffic lights

We maintain over 200 permanent traffic light locations throughout Somerset.

You can report a problem with a traffic light by using the button below.

Report now

If the traffic signal equipment is damaged in any way please phone us immediately on
0300 123 2224 during office hours.

Phone the police general enquiries line, 101, outside of our opening hours. Please do not touch the equipment or exposed wires.

When you contact us please give us the following information:

  • Your name and phone number, in case we need to contact you
  • The date and time you noticed the problem
  • The location, including the road name/junction
  • Whether the traffic lights are permanent or temporary
  • Note the exact details of the fault, for example: 'the green man isn’t working outside the school'

If the traffic lights are on a motorway junction phone Highways England on 0300 123 5000. Please give the following information about the lights and their location: the town street name(s), the name of any local landmarks (for example near 'pub name') and a description of the problem.

When you report faulty traffic lights we will investigate your report as soon as possible and take appropriate action to make it safe. Our contractor will attend the site within 24 hours.

New traffic lights in Somerset

New traffic lights are installed because of planning agreements with developers delivering Local Transport Plan objectives, or because of a specific need we have identified. Our specialist teams check proposals for new installations or significant alterations to existing installations. We carry out detailed checks of plans, specifications and controller configurations before the installation is switched on.

We have strict guidelines for the design and installation of traffic signals. There is a copy of the guidelines in the Information and resources section of this page.
