Road safety

Somerset Road Safety, our dedicated road safety team, is staffed by experienced road safety professionals committed to reducing the number of collisions and casualties on the county's roads by promoting a Safe Systems approach to safe road use through education, advice and training, engineering and enforcement.

We work in partnership with a wide variety of associates and consist of two teams - the Education, Training and Publicity (ETP) team and the Collision Investigation and Prevention (CIP) team.

The ETP team facilitates, co-ordinates and delivers workshops and presentations throughout Somerset, providing road safety advice and training to all types of road user from pre-school aged pedestrians and motorcyclists, to post-retirement drivers wishing to drive safely for longer.

While a large proportion of ETP teams work is focused in schools and colleges, the team are also available to support events run in the local community, where road safety advice would be welcomed.

The CIP team investigates fatal collisions within the county - defining causes and recommending suitable solutions through engineering, enforcement or education. The team also compiles data on every other injury collision in Somerset. This data is also used to develop engineering, enforcement or education strategies, including focusing the objectives of the ETP team.
