Somerset Children & Young People's Plan 2006-09

The Somerset Children and Young People's Partnership are pleased to present our Children and Young People's Plan (CYPP).
The Plan outlines what we collectively believe are the priorities for improving the life chances and outcomes for children and young people in Somerset over the next three years.
It relates to children and young people aged 0-19 years old, as well as those aged 20 and over who are leaving the Local Authority's care, and those with learning difficulties to the age of 25.

This strategic Plan brings together in one document the agreed key priorities for all those who work with children and young people in Somerset and embraces the priorities that have been agreed for the Local Area Agreement.
The priorities have been established through:
-
discussions with partners and a scrutiny of their plans and priorities including those of the Somerset Strategic Partnership;
-
rigorous analysis of data, a range of needs analyses and feedback from inspectorates on how well Somerset provides for young people;
-
discussions with schools as to their priorities for improving their pupils’ life chances through the five outcomes from Every Child Matters;
-
the views of children, young people, parents and carers.
Inspectorates have highlighted the fact that at a local level, many long-established partnerships already serve children and young people well. We firmly believe that our strengthening partnership will enable us to better meet the needs of young people in Somerset. We commend the Plan to you and welcome any feedback you may wish to give.
Activities to Deliver the Children and Young People’s Strategic Plan 2006-2009
Progress against the activities included in this document will be regularly monitored and reported by the agencies and organisations responsible (as indicated throughout), with the Somerset Children and Young People’s Partnership having ultimate responsibility for reviewing and overseeing the delivery of the Children and Young People’s Plan.
In addition to the published Children and Young People’s Plan and this supporting document, we have developed a Children and Young People’s Partnership website, which enables us to update and expand on these activities and to paint a broader picture of the extent of multi-disciplinary and partnership working across Somerset that relates to the five outcomes for children and young people: Being Healthy, Staying Safe, Enjoying and Achieving, Making a Positive Contribution, Achieving Economic Wellbeing.
