Welcome to the 'Somerset Change for Children: Partnership Working' website. This has been set up so that you can find out more about how Children's Services in Somerset are provided in partnership.
Background
A Review of Children's Services took place in response to a number of national and local developments:
- Every Child Matters, also known as The Children's Green Paper
- The Laming Report on the death of Victoria Climbié
- The National Service Framework (NSF) for child health and social care
- The success of various Government initiatives such as Sure Start, Children's Centres, Connexions, Youth Offending Teams – all aimed at delivering seamless services to children, young people and their families.
As a result of this review the Vision for Children´s Services in Somerset was produced in the autumn of 2004. This set out the proposals for developing children services in line with government guidance and feedback received from staff and the public. Somerset Children and Young People's Partnership (SCYPP) was set up in 2005 to act as Somerset's Children's Trust (as set out in the Children Act 2004). Its purpose is to bring together all services for children and young people in Somerset.
Now
Somerset Children and Young People's Partnership (SCYPP) is the strategic planning body that sets the direction for children and young people's services in Somerset. The SCYPP board is held to accounty by the SCYPP Scrutiny. Scrutiny ensures local accountability in relation to the services provided and commissioned by the SCYPP. It also monitors the Partnership’s performance in improving the five outcomes for children and young people (identified in Every Child Matters)and scrutinises the work of the Somerset Local Safeguarding Children Board. Somerset's current priorities for Children and Young People have been identified by the SCYPP, and are laid out in 'The Somerset Children and Young People's Plan 2006-2009' .
