What sort of support can I provide as a volunteer?

Active Living offers a range of opportunities for volunteering. You may like to think about what you can offer. Some examples may include, organising events/activities, helping with refreshments, putting together a programme of activities/speakers, providing IT support, or just spending time with older people.

How much time should I give?

This is entirely up to you; it could be as little as two hours a month or more, depending on the time you can offer. However be realistic before committing yourself, others may come to depend on you for support.

Would I need to register as a volunteer?

Yes you would, because voluntary work may bring you into contact with people who are vulnerable you would be expected to register as a volunteer and may have to be checked by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) This will be dependent on the type of volunteer support you are providing.

Yes I would like to volunteer my time, how can I do this?

Partnerships for Older People have an arrangement with Age Concern Somerset to register all volunteers who want to undertake voluntary work with Active Living. Your local Active Living Officer would be very happy to give you more information about opportunities for volunteering in your area and to answer any other questions you have.
