Who is it for?

Anyone can benefit from Active Living but many of the activities are delivered for those aged 50 and above. This shouldn’t stop anyone younger becoming involved as a volunteer or providing support to people you know in the community who have difficulty in accessing services.

What does Active Living hope to achieve?

Active Living has been opening Active Living Centres in a variety of venues across Somerset. Active Living Centres have been based in the heart of communities to provide easy access to information and advice on health, physical activity, safety in the community, pensions and benefits, credit union, learning opportunities and lots more. They are all slightly different in that they provide what the community want and are run by the community with support from Active Living. The emphasis on the activities is to make sure that people have access to the right information at the right time to promote their health and well-being into their later life.

The important aspect of Active Living Centres is to empower individuals to speak out on issues around their health and the services they need to maintain health and well-being.

Active Living Centres provide the opportunity for people in local communities to come together and enjoy cooking and eating good food. Also to participate in physical activities e.g. yoga, tai chi, pilates, belly dancing, circuits, and many more, all geared towards those who are not as young as they would like to admit but who may benefit from feeling younger.
