Networks Introduction
Europe Team Officers also represent Somerset County Council through their participation in the following networks: EON, LEON, ICON and SWELAN.
The first three networks are organised by the Local Government Association (formerly the LGIB), and their purpose is to keep local authorities informed of developments at EU level, and to help them share good practice.
EON stands for European Officer Network. EON has around 50 members drawn from across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Most members regularly attend quarterly meetings, whilst others stay on the network for information purposes. Meetings are usually held in London and up to three regional representatives are invited to attend.
The Lisbon European Officer Network (LEON) is a subgroup of EON, which includes one LGA representative for each region. It meets to discuss the specific policy areas covered by the Lisbon Strategy.
The International Cooperation Officer Network (ICON) is meant to add value and help LGA engagement in international partnerships and programmes.
SWELAN is an informal network of European Officers from across the South West Region, who meet quarterly to offer each other mutual support/training and coordinate joint project involvement by their respective authorities.
