Important Information - Somerset County Museum is now closed
|
The Somerset County Museum closed to the public on Saturday 19th April 2008 for a refurbishment of Taunton Castle and a re-fit of the museum exhibitions . We will be re-opening as the Museum of Somerset. Please use the link below to find out more about the project.

During this period the Rural Life Museum and the Brick & Tile Museum will be open as usual.

Please note that the Somerset Military Museum is now closed to the public as part of the overall refurbishment and re-fit. It will re-open as part of the Museum of Somerset.

Welcome to the Somerset County Museums Service website. Entrance to all our museums is free .
What We Do

Collect, conserve, research, communicate and exhibit material evidence of human activity and the natural environment.

Offer facilities at our museums in Taunton, Glastonbury and Bridgwater for visitors to discover, learn about and enjoy Somerset’s fascinating history and heritage. Many of our collections are on public display whilst more are available for study by appointment.

Work with and support other museums and heritage organisations in Somerset to promote and develop the county’s heritage.

We are part of Somerset County Council’s Heritage Service, which also includes the Archive Service , the Historic Environment Service and Victoria County History of Somerset.
