Towards a new working kiln at the
Somerset Brick and Tile Museum, Bridgwater
Many people driving along East Quay in Bridgwater will have seen the town’s last remaining tile kiln. Today it forms the core of the Somerset Brick and Tile Museum, which is dedicated to the once-thriving industry that employed so many local people.
The museum is currently developing craft workshop facilities to include a very versatile two cubic metre kiln with full adjustable shelves and two zone temperatures.
Once operational it will be available for school groups, local potters etc.

Local companies have been very supportive. Acc-q-mix Ltd supplied the concrete for the base, and the photograph shows the kiln being delivered by 'Wheelers' the local transport company.
The Somerset Brick and Tile Museum is open Wednesdays and Thursdays 10am – 4pm and other times for parties by arrangement. Admission is free.
For information about the museum or developing the craft workshop facilities please telephone Simon Payne at Somerset Work Preparation Services (Huntspill Projects) on 01278 786240.
