Education

The Somerset Heritage Service has a special responsibility for developing the educational use of the museum and archive collections.

We draw on a unique resource of original material and offer pupils a chance to experience and learn from real artefacts and documents.

We offer materials for use in schools throughout the County and facilities for teachers and pupils within the Somerset Rural Life Museum in Glastonbury, Peat Moors Centre in Westhay and the Brick & Tile Museum in Bridgwater. Whilst the County Museum in Taunton is closed for refurbishment we are also providing learning sessions in school.

Loan Service

This well established service enables you to choose items to support topic work and to tap the skills, expertise and knowledge of our staff. The loan service can provide material unavailable from any other source in the County for use in school. The material available is rich and varied and includes historical objects, from Greek and Roman times to the present day, models of buildings and vehicles, rocks and fossils, mounted birds and animals, ethnic and religious items, photographs, paintings and prints.
