South West Museums and Heritage Training Consortium
Cultural Heritage NVQs
The South West Museums and Heritage Training Consortium provides an NVQ assessment and mentoring service for the museum and heritage community in the South West and serves to support professional development in Cultural Heritage organisations.
Prior to the introduction of NVQs the only route to professional qualifications and recognition in museums, and many other Cultural Heritage occupations, was the traditional system of a relevant first degree followed by a post-graduate heritage qualification. NVQs offer the opportunity for professional development at all levels using the worker’s role in the workplace as the basis for assessment and development.
They have become widely recognised and respected in the heritage sector. The single units G2 or G3 are part of recognised routes to attaining the Associateship of the Museums Association (AMA). As such they offer an effective training and development tool to both heritage workers and their employers.
The Consortium offers NVQs in Cultural Heritage at the following levels:
Level 2: Some varied work with responsibility. The application of knowledge in a significant range of varied work activities, performed in a variety of complex or non-routine contexts.
Level 3: Some supervision of others. Competence that involves the application of knowledge in a broad range of varied work activities performed in a wide variety of complex and non-routine contexts.
Level 4: Junior professional work / junior management. Competence that involves the application of knowledge in a broad range of complex, technical or professional work activities performed in a wide variety of contexts and with a substantial degree of personal responsibility and autonomy.
Level 5: Experienced professional work / management. Competence that involves the application of a significant range of fundamental principles across a wide and often unpredictable variety of contexts.
Units G2 or G3
The Consortium also offers the single units G2 or G3
