This covers most trade sectors including the motor industry, consumer credit, estate agents, “Cowboy” builders and travel agents as well as other retail outlets such as supermarkets.
The Fair Trading and Safety Team increasingly works in partnership with other Trading Standards authorities, the Police, Central Government, other Enforcement Agencies and the trade and retail sectors to carry out its duties.
Our Aim
We aim to promote fair trading to protect consumers and enable reputable businesses to thrive in the County. Our policies and priorities are linked to three main themes:
-
Supporting honest business by providing civil advice and information on the law and appraisal of quality systems
-
Targeting enforcement at rogue traders and anti-competitive practices
-
Promoting safety and fair-trading to support the economic, social and environmental well-being of local communities
