Exmoor National Park Authority

Exmoor National Park

Exmoor was designated as a National Park in 1954 and covers 689 square kilometres (268 square miles),of which 189.9 square kilometres (189.92 square miles) lies in Somerset  Exmoor National Park is specially protected as one of our finest landscapes and an important part of our national heritage.

It is protected for the conservation of its scenery, wildlife and cultural heritage and for the understanding and enjoyment which it can provide.  
   
Local government in the form of Exmoor National Park Authority co-ordinates the work to achieve the purposes of the National Park and acts as a free-standing authority.
