A37 Road Safety Scheme

Progress update (24/05/07):

A37 Workshop at Haynes Motor Museum

A workshop was held in April where representatives from local communities and other interested parties met with staff from Somerset County Council and Somerset’s Road Safety Partnership to discuss road safety issues associated with the rural section of the A37. The aim of the workshop was to build a long-term commitment to the specific safety issues identified and to develop appropriate initiatives that could be supported by local communities and other stakeholders. The workshop was very successful with a great deal of positive feedback received. The main themes that emerged from the workshop have been brought together and an action plan of suitable initiatives is being prepared.

Sections 1, 2 & 3 have now been complete. Section 4 is near completion but there are some lining works outstanding due to the winter weather.
Localised temporary driver information signs have now been erected at 7 specific locations based on historic injury collision data.

These locations are:

o Yeovil Marsh
o Sticklebridge Bends
o Beardly Batch junction with A361
o Downside junction B3136, north of Shepton Mallet
o Beacon Cross/Oakhill junction A367
o Mendip Inn junction at B3135
o Ston Easton

These locations also relate to where we have introduced the higher specification fluorescent yellow signage, as an additional casualty reduction measure.
