Wellington Road Off Road Cycle Route - Taunton

“The promotion of cycling and walking is a key element in Somerset County Council’s LTP Strategy. This scheme will provide an alternative, safer route for cyclists not wishing to travel on this section of Wellington road and will provide an important link in the cycle network serving SCAT, Castle School and the surrounding area.”

Construction of this scheme is now underway (commenced 21/11/06) and is estimated to take two weeks.

The scheme is an off road shared pedestrian/cycle route along the existing southern footway along Wellington Road (between Henley Road and south of Aylands Road). The route will connect up to the existing off road cycle routes and toucan crossings either end.

Elements of the scheme include:

  • Realignment of kerbing;
  • Installation of sign and road markings;
  • New red surfacing along the existing footway and
  • Tactile crossing points.

The scheme was identified and is being implemented through the Local Transport Plan (LTP) strategy.
