Transporting Somerset is charged with providing an integrated passenger road transport service that links with other forms of transport to provide a seamless provision within the County.

Currently the Unit provides:

• Statutory school transport for under 16 mainstream school children and those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) at school or college.
  
  
• The opportunity to purchase County Tickets for post 16 college students.
  
  
• Statutory transport for Social Service clients in accordance with their Care Plans.
  
  
• Supported public bus services and the management of commercial bus services, co-ordinated with rail services wherever possible.
  
  
• Accessible Community Based Transport and Rural Car Schemes.
  
  
• A variety of demand responsive schemes such as SlinkyBus, Taxibus, and tourist buses such as the Exmoor Explorer, Exmoor Coastal Link and Glastonbury Tor services.
  
  
• Links with the Health Service non-emergency transport are being developed.
  
  
• A one-stop shop for the provision of passenger transport to meet Emergency Planning requirements.
  
  
• Bus stop information and bus timetables. This information is more easily accessed through Traveline (0871 200 22 33*) to whom we supply the data.
  
  
• Management of the Countywide Concessionary Fares scheme on behalf of District Councils and the provision of Somerset TravelPasses.
  
  
• Driver and Escort training for Somerset County Council employees and other agencies.
