Under part I of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000, the Countryside Agency is currently preparing maps showing registered common land and open country. Open Country is defined as mountain, moor, heath and down. This new right will allow people to walk on areas of open country and registered common land. However before the new right comes into effect the land must be mapped so everyone knows where they can walk.
