Would you like to help Somerset County Council's Rights of Way Team look after The West Somerset Coast Path?

The West Somerset Coast Path was officially opened by Colonel Sir Walter Luttrell in May 2006.

The route covers a distance of nearly 40km's and links the River Parrett Trail at Steart in Bridgwater Bay to the South West Coast Path National Trail in Minehead.

Thanks to the West Somerset Coast path, it is now possible to walk the entire South West Peninsula along a 1000km circular route.

The views from the West Somerset Coast Path towards the Quantock Hills and out across the Bristol Channel from St Audries, Warren and Blue Anchor bays are stunning and, whats more, you can find out more about Somerset's forgotten maritime history along the way.

We work with local landowners to make sure the West Somerset Coast Path remains open and easy to use for everyone to enjoy.

The Trail Watchers Scheme provides an opportunity for volunteers to adopt their favourite section of the trail and help us look after it.

All we ask is that Trail Watchers walk the section of the path they've adopted 3 or 4 times a year and they report in any problem they may come across such as broken gates or stiles or missing signposts and way markers.

We also ask them to take out a pair of secateurs just in case there's any vegetation overhanging a gate, stile or signpost that can easily be cut back.

The Trail Watchers Scheme is open to anyone between 18 and 75 years old.

Don't worry if your under 18; you can still take part provided that when you go out you're joined by your parent or guardian.

If you are over 75, you can still part but please contact the Rights of Way Team first so we can discuss your membership.

Just let us know your favourite part of the trail by downloading the Trail Watchers Scheme Leaflet and returning the prepaid registration form to the Rights of Way Team.
