Renewable Energy

About Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is utilisable energy in the form of heat, electricity and transport fuels, derived from energy flows that occur naturally and repeatedly in the environment – from the wind, the fall of water, the movement of the oceans, from the sun and from biomass.

Your Council's Policy on Renewable Energy

Somerset County Council, in line with national and regional government policies, supports and encourages the development of renewable energy in the County. Your Council will also exercise it’s power as a  regulatory authority to encourage appropriate renewable energy technologies that will deliver maximum benefits to the environment and the local economy.
