A Travel Plan is a strategy designed to reduce the impact of traffic especially for the journey to and from work. It may form part of a wider company transport plan that can include a range of issues including commuting, business travel, fleet management and other commercial activities. The Yeovil Transport Strategy proposes the following travel planning / travel awareness measures:
| |
• |
Use of the planning process - SSDC to secure travel plans for all new significant developments; |
| |
• |
Preparation of Supplementary Planning Guidance for development purposes; |
|
• |
SCC / SSDC to promote funding streams to organisations wishing to develop travel plans (i.e. TransportEnergy Best Practice Programme); |
|
• |
SCC to expand its database of local travel plan activity to incorporate those travel plans required through S106 Agreements; |
|
• |
Expansion and promotion of the Somerset Car Share scheme; |
|
• |
Use of the Travel Plan Evaluation Tool to assess travel plans submitted as part of planning applications. SCC / SSDC to set a standard that all travel plans will attain before approving them; |
|
• |
The re-establishment of the Yeovil Travel Plan Network to promote travel plans and to support organisations implementing travel plans. |
|
• |
The development of a strategic travel plan and travel awareness brand jointly by SCC/SSDC, combined with a strategic marketing campaign to promote travel awareness / travel plans continuously throughout the year as opposed to one off events; |
|
• |
Publishing a quarterly newsletter which draws together and promotes all the local travel plan activity in Yeovil and Somerset; |
|
• |
SCC and SSDC to actively promote their own travel plans to local employers to show that they lead by example; and, |
| |
• |
SSDC to employ a Travel Plan Co-ordinator to promote travel plans locally and assist with the assessment of travel plans submitted through the planning process. |
In addition to the above measures and to address some of the problems associated with parking and traffic management on match days Somerset County Council will also be working with Yeovil Town Football Club to produce a transport strategy / travel plan for the club.
