Without doubt the car is the most convenient means of transport for most of us. At present over 85% of UK workers use their car to travel to work each day.
A survey of over 3,000 people has shown that 45% of UK workers would be more likely to work for an employer who offered an easy-to-use Car Sharing scheme.
The survey revealed that if reliable arrangements were organised by employers, nine times as many individuals would car share than at present.

Somerset Car Share Scheme
|
Somerset County Council has developed a scheme to maximise the potential of Car Sharing across Somerset.
An internet-based car share system using ‘Jambusters’ software enables users to find ‘matches’ in terms of potential lift sharing on a geographical and route basis.
Users can also specify personal preferences such as non-smoking car sharers, and can be matched with people making a similar journey at similar times.
The scheme’s success relies upon an easily accessible and flexible database of people who are willing to take full advantage of the immediate and long term benefits of car sharing.
All information placed on the database is strictly confidential and anyone who signs up to the scheme can take their details from the database at any time.
Through the Somerset Car Share Scheme, we aim to improve the current situation for all road users by reducing congestion and therefore help address the problem of poor air quality, which has been identified in certain areas in the county.
We also aim to reduce the volume of traffic on the road network at morning and evening peak travel times without compromising or restricting the development of other modes of transport.

With so many employees struggling to get to their place of work these days due to congestion, poor parking facilities and, in some cases, geographic isolation, it makes sense to join the Somerset Car Share Scheme.
|
People who wish to join this comprehensive scheme need to either log on via the car share scheme webiste
Or contact the Somerset Car Share Scheme administrator at Somerset County Council, who will be happy to discuss your requirements, show you how the system works.
