Unfortunately bikes do get stolen, so it’s worth investing in a good lock. Shackle locks, also known as D-locks, are heavy to carry around but generally regarded as the most secure. Some people carry a second cable lock to secure the wheels or saddle in place.
You can usually insure your bike as part of your household contents policy, but do check for the maximum values. The CTC offer cycle insurance to their members.
The police can mark your bike with your postcode, and they hold regular coding sessions. Check with your local Crime Prevention Officer.
Park your bike securely to a fixed object, in a highly visible location. Ideally on a purpose-built cycle rack. If there is nowhere to park at your workplace, ask for bike racks to be installed: you will be amazed how quickly they fill up!
