About the Act

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives you a general right to all types of recorded information held by public authorities. The Act is designed to ensure greater accountability, as well as to promote a more open culture.

Somerset County Council recognises the importance of the Freedom of Information Act for public services and we are committed to meeting our responsibilities under it.

National Fraud Initiative 2008/09

This authority is required by law to protect the public funds it administers.  It may share information provided to it with other bodies responsible for auditing or administering public funds, in order to prevent and detect fraud.
