There are three main steps to making an application for a school place:
| Step 1
You are advised to read this booklet very carefully and when you are satisfied that you understand the admissions procedure, choose up to three schools at which you would prefer your child to attend. Some guidance about choosing schools is provided in our general information section.
Step 2
Complete the electronic ‘on line’ admission form (click here) or the paper application form contained in your Sarting School booklet. Ensure you are clear about your preferences (up to three maximum) and that you have the necessary supplementary information to support any special circumstances you may be indicating. If you do not have a copy, please contact Somerset Direct on 0845 4564038, and they will arrange for a copy to be sent to you.

Step 3
If you are a Somerset resident and are applying for a school outside of somerset you will need to submit or return your completed application to Somerset LA by the relevant maintaining Authority’s closing deadline. A list of Somerset’s neighbouring Authority deadlines is shown below. If you would like information on an alternative Authority’s closing date then please contact them directly. If you are a non-Somerset resident you must return your completed application to your home authority.

Late Applications
It is essential that you return your application form by 24th October 2008 (midnight for online applications - 4pm for paper forms). This ensures that sufficient time is allowed for your application to have proper consideration. However, relevant proof for on-time applications will be accepted up to 1st December 2008 under the following circumstances:
Providing applications are received by the published closing date, consideration will be given to your preferences and a school place offer will be made on 16th January 2009.

WARNING : Applications received after 24th October 2008 (excluding exceptional circumstance applications) will not be considered as an on-time application, and subsequently no offer or refusal will be made on 16th January 2009. These late applications will be considered following completion of the formal appeals round.
