Parent Partnership (SEN)

The aims of the Parent Partnership are:

  • to give you independent, impartial information, advice, guidance and support.
  • to help you play a valued and active role in your child’s education and enable you to make informed choices/decisions.
  • to encourage genuine partnership between you, your child’s school, the Local Education Authority and other agencies.
  • to support schools in developing and maintaining good working practices and partnership with parents.


The Somerset Parent Partnership service offers independent information, advice, guidance and support for parents/carers of children with special /additional educational needs (SEN/AEN). We are a service provided by Somerset LEA for parents and we work closely with other agencies and the voluntary sector in Somerset. The service is available to all parents of children with SEN/AEN including very young children, when a cause for concern is first raised.

We offer Confidential information, advice and support through our telephone enquiry lines. A trained volunteer (Independent Parental Supporter) to support you personally in a variety of ways in discussing and considering your child’s needs. An independent and credible service for resolving disputes and disagreements. Signposts to other services and support groups. An advice and support service for pre-school children.

We can offer you:

  • The chance to talk things through and listen to your concerns.
  • Support at meetings about your child.
  • Help to write reports about your child.
  • Help with the statutory assessment procedures.
  • Help to discuss and respond to a draft Statement if one is issued for your child.
  • Advice about who you should contact about your child.
  • Advice on what to do if you are in disagreement about your child’s educational needs.
