The Youth County Services works mainly with young people aged 13-19 but also with 11-21 year olds. The Service offers a variety of opportunities for all young people across the County, building relationships on trust and respect. The Service asks young people's opinions and involves them in decision making, supporting them to speak for themselves within their communities.
The service is accessible across Somerset in purpose built youth centres/clubs, village/community halls, and Schools and there are also mobile units which travel to young people.
Some Clubs have regular membership whilst others are open as casual drop in centres. Many projects such as theatre groups, video projects, youth action groups, art groups, special needs groups, motor projects, leaving care groups, peer education are accessible.
As well as the projects mentioned previously activities such as the arts, outdoor education, climbing, camping, discos, international exchanges, team games, skateboarding, hovercraft, youth councils, fund raising, ICT are available. These activities provide an opportunity to meet friends, listen to and create music and have their own space.
The service also offers advice and information on health, work, housing, leaving home, the law and other issues which affect people.
