Advocacy

Advocates are people, paid or unpaid, who speak up for and support the wishes of another person.  Advocacy is helping people to:

  • Say what they want
  • Get their rights
  • Represent their interests
  • Get the services and practical support they need.

An advocate can help you to tell others what your needs and wishes are or speak for you if you want them to.  An advocate would support you to speak for yourself whenever possible.

There are advocacy services in Somerset for:

  • People of working age with physical disabilities and sensory impairment
  • Older People
  • People with Mental Health Difficulties
  • People with Learning Disabilities
  • Children and Young People.
