Direct Payments

What are Direct Payments?

Direct Payments are money paid to people with assessed care needs so that they can choose and arrange their own care services.  It can also be used by people with assessed care needs to buy in care, to allow their regular unpaid carer(s) to take a break.

Direct Payments make it possible for people to have more choice about and control of the type of help and support they have to meet their care needs. Direct Payments can be given instead of community care services when care needs have been agreed after an assessment.

Click here for more information about direct payments in other languages. It can be found on the publication called Social Care Services.

The Direct Payment Advisory Scheme in Somerset is provided  for the County Council by an organisation called A4e.
