Information for Carers

Introduction

If you give up your time, without pay, to look after a family member, a friend, or a neighbour who is ill, frail, or has a disability, then you are a carer.

You may be a parent carer, a young carer, or care for an older person.

You and the person you care for can get help, advice, and support from many health and social care professionals and voluntary support groups in Somerset.

Use the links provided at the top of this page to find out about the help you can get.

For more information, please go to the publications page by clicking here.

News

It is important that the new national carers strategy is shaped by carers themselves and the organisations which support them.  This is the most extensive consultation with carers so it is important to make the most of this opportunity by following the links below.

Supporting carers and family members affected by someone else’s substance use

In Somerset we are committed to developing support services for carers and family members affected by someone else’s drug/alcohol use.

If you are a carer or family member, please spare 10 minutes of your time to fill in our survey.  The results of this survey will help the Somerset Drug and Alcohol Acton Team (DAAT) and its partners to plan and deliver quality services that meet the needs of carers and family members in the county.

The closing date is Friday, 12 December 2008.
