About the Education Social Work Service

The Education Social Work Service is based within the social services offices across Somerset and works to support schools, young people and their families to improve attendance.

Regular liaison meetings with senior school staff lead to referrals, initial assessments and support packages being implemented by Education Social Workers and Education Support Assistants.

The Education Social Work Service is responsible for legal applications on behalf of the Lifelong Learning Directorate where parents are failing in their duty to ensure their child attends school and is also responsible for implementing legislation in respect of the employment of children.
