The Children Leaving Care Act came into force on 1st October 2001. This creates new rights for young people leaving care.
Every looked after young person from the age of 15½ will have a Pathway Plan, which will continue until they are 21 (or 24 for care leavers who are still in education). This will include financial support for those who need it.
