Learning Disabilities Best Value Review
CSCI, the Commission for Social Care Inspection, has reported on its inspection of Somerset’s Adults Learning Disability Services. The recommendations in CSCI’s report provided the framework for the scope of the Best Value Review.
A Best Value review is an independent review which challenges how the service is provided, consults with key stakeholders to find their expectations of the service, compares the service to other authorities and to the independent sector and ensures that the service is competitive with other similar service providers.
The review specifically focussed on:
-
Commissioning and Long-term funding arrangements
-
Work Preparation and Training – how best to structure support into work
-
Residential Care and Supported Housing
-
Community Teams
-
Social Inclusion – corporate links, particularly with Education.
The review was steered by an inter agency review team, which was independently chaired by Monica House, Non-Executive Director Somerset Coast PCT and resulted in a final report which was signed off by Health and Social Care Scrutiny committee in March 2005.
