Being an Equal Person means:

• you are not stopped from doing things because of your disability. Like getting on a bus, going shopping.
  
  
• you can follow your family’s way of life, if you choose to. You might:-
  
  
  - eat special foods
  - not eat some foods
  - say prayers where you want to
  - wash in a special way
  - put special things on your skin
  - wear special clothes
  - look after your hair in a special way
  
  
• you can communicate
  
  
• you can choose if a man or woman staff support you
  
  
• they know what to call you
  
  
• they know how to care for you if you are ill or dying
  
  
• you have the same choices if you are:
  
  
  - a man or a woman
  - lesbian or gay
  - young or old
  - black or white
