About Domestic Abuse

Domestic abuse is much more common than people think; one in four women and one in six men will suffer from it at some point in their lives. It can happen to anyone, in all types of relationships.
Domestic abuse can take many different forms, be it physical, sexual, emotional or financial – or indeed a combination of all four. It is a pattern of controlling behaviours, rarely a one-off event. On average, women suffer 35 assaults before reporting it.

Victims may be made to feel responsible and guilty for the abuse, and it can go on for years, often increasing in frequency and severity. Sometimes it only ends when one person kills the other.
