Re-registering a birth
Please phone the team on 01823 282251 or email SomersetRegistrations@somerset.gov.uk for more information
You can re-register a birth when the natural father’s details were not included at registration, or when natural parents have married after a birth was first registered.
Not re-registering a birth could have implications on your child in later life in matters of legitimacy and inheritance.
If the person whose birth is being re-registered is aged 16 or over and their name is being changed at re-registration, their written consent is needed.
To re-register a birth, please complete the relevant form and contact us to make an appointment:
Application to re-register a child’s birth and add the natural father’s details
Application to re-register a birth following the marriage or civil partnership of natural parents
Most re-registrations can be authorised locally, but occasionally the registrar general must be consulted. We will let you know if this applies to your application.
Please phone 01823 282251 to book an appointment or email SomersetRegistrations@somerset.gov.uk with your enquiry.
