We have secured £1,529,922.94 of investment from the European Social Fund (ESF) to deliver the Somerset Skills for Growth Project.
This project includes the extension of ‘Skill Up’, Somerset’s Apprenticeship and Skills Advisory Service for businesses and individuals, as well as the provision of ‘Springboard,’ short units of qualifications for individuals. It will focus on career development and provide new chances for those in employment to upskill and move onto higher levels of learning.
You can find more information about Skill Up at https://www.skillupsomerset.org.uk/ and further information on Springboard can be found at https://skillupsomerset.org.uk/springboard/
Somerset County Council and the Dorset and Somerset Training Provider Network have contributed match-funding, bringing the total project value to approximately £840,000. Provision will be available to businesses and individuals from 1 April 2020 until the end of June 2023.
We will also be offering upskilling opportunities to Somerset County Council and the wider public sector workforce by funding a further £304,000 of training, as well as £55,000 to support apprentices to finish their learning within Council.
ESF is managed through a contract with the Department for Work and Pensions. The Contract management activity is carried out by the Council’s Economy and Planning Service, while operational activity is delivered by the Dorset and Somerset Training Provider Network, Somerset County Council Organisation Development and various Training Providers across Somerset and the South West.
