Knight Electrical Switchgear, based at Donyatt Business Park near Ilminster, successfully applied for a grant to help towards replacing the outdated fluorescent lighting in their 10,000 square feet production area. The new lighting is provided by energy efficient LED units. It will both save on the amount of electricity consumed and help further reduce the carbon footprint of the business.

Little Upton Holiday Lets, Long Sutton, near Langport

Little Upton Holiday Lets used its Carbon Reduction Grant to upgrade the recycling facilities for their guests. There are 6 holiday lets at Bridge Farm and the purchases include clearly labelled waste recycling bins for cardboard, paper, glass, plastic and tins. These are placed both inside and outside the premises.

Guests are encouraged to recycle as much waste as possible. It’s hoped the recycling facilities will encourage holidaymakers to improve their recycling habits when they return home. The reduction in the carbon footprint of the business will be calculated by measuring the reduction in the amount of general waste going to landfill.

Bookkeeping, Taunton

Bookkeeping used their Carbon Reduction Grant to replace the old single-glazed windows at their Taunton office. The old doors and windows were ill-fitting, worn, draughty and extremely inefficient as insulators. This resulted in high heating bills and high energy use during the winter months.

New energy-efficient double-glazed windows and a double-glazed door have now been fitted. The reduction in carbon emissions will be calculated annually from the direct reduction in energy usage at the premises.
