A strategy to increase breastfeeding initiation and prevalence in Somerset
The vision for Somerset’s Infant Feeding and Nutrition Strategy is to enable Somerset parents to make the natural choice in infant feeding, and in all instances an informed choice. The intention is to improve breastfeeding rates and inform all infant feeding practices.
Women will be supported to breastfeed their babies exclusively until the recommended term of 6 months and beyond, in order to improve health and reduce health inequalities.
Somerset will be welcoming of breastfeeding in public premises and areas, and parents will feel supported to nurture and support their babies to be happy, healthy and reach their full potential in a welcoming, healthy and safe environment.
