Bridgwater South – Pride in Place

Pride in Place is a 10‑year programme giving Bridgwater South up to £20 million to support community‑led projects and local priorities

What Pride in Place aims to do

Pride in Place is a 10-year national programme that puts residents at the heart of local decisions.

The Bridgwater South area will receive up to £20 million over the next decade to support projects that matter to the community.

Bridgwater South describes an area that includes Hamp and parts of Westover – the communities surrounding the Meads.

This long‑term investment gives communities the significant opportunity to focus on local priorities and make lasting, positive changes for residents. It supports the programme’s aims to:

  • Build stronger communities – Bring people together to create strong, resilient communities where residents feel proud of where they live and feel safe in their neighbourhoods.
  • Create thriving places – Build vibrant neighbourhoods with busy high streets, a good range of local services, and high‑quality buildings, spaces and infrastructure.
  • Empower people to take back control – Create opportunities for residents to have a real say in decisions about their area and feel more in control of their lives and communities.

Who decides how the funding is spent

The Pride in Place programme is community‑led. In Bridgwater South, a Neighbourhood Board will be set up. This board will include local residents, the local Member of Parliament, councils, businesses and community organisations. Together, they will decide how the funding is used and how the area develops.

Get involved

Applications are now open to become the Chair of the Neighbourhood Board.

The Chair is an independent position and will provide leadership for the board and ensure the programme is community-led and embedded within the local area.

If you are interested in applying, please visit our Independent Chair – Bridgwater South Neighbourhood Board page.

If you are interested in joining the board as a member, please get in touch by contacting prideinplace@somerset.gov.uk
