Levelling Up Fund
The Government’s Levelling up Fund is designed to invest in infrastructure that improves everyday life across the UK. The £4.8 billion fund will support town centre and high street regeneration, local transport projects, and cultural and heritage assets.
Funding bids are based upon Parliamentary Constituencies.
One was a joint bid between the previous Sedgemoor and Somerset West and Taunton District Councils for the Bridgwater and West Somerset Constituency. This focused on investment at Bridgwater and Minehead.
The other one was a joint bid with the former Sedgemoor and Mendip District Councils for the Wells constituency and includes projects at Highbridge, Cheddar including the Gorge and surrounding area, and Shepton Mallet which was unsuccessful.
The Councils jointly submitted bids to the Levelling Up Fund in August 2022.
