How to notify us of a new business

Introduction

Business rates is a charge paid by owners, leaseholders and occupiers of non-domestic properties, such as shops, offices, factories, warehouses and pubs to help pay for local services. We are responsible for collecting business rates from businesses in Somerset. Let us know about your new business.

Register a new business

If your business premises is newly built and has not yet been given a rateable value, you will still need to register with us.

We will then refer the new premises to the Valuation Office Agency. You can check if the premises has a rateable value on the Government’s business rates valuation page.
